Emergency Relief

Emergency Relief is a service that is provided for Whittlesea residents who are facing exceptional financial difficulties  and cannot meet their basic needs

Our purpose is to assist people suffering poverty distress, destitution and helplessness to overcome their immediate financial crisis in a way that maintains the dignity of the individual and encourages self-reliance. The Emergency Relief Program is provided under the same principles as the core services of the agency. it is

  • Confidential
  • Impartial
  • Independent
  • And respects the client's rights to make their own decisions.

Assistance is provided based on an assessment of a client's situation and factors such as age, gender, ethnicity and lifestyle are not key determinants in determining eligibility. The assistance provided is designed to help meet basic needs such as
  • Food
  • Bills
  • Medication
  • Transport
  • School/child expenses

The long term problems and causes of crisis are also  addressed through the provision of referral, advice, advocacy and information.  Our Emergency Relief interviewers endeavour to keep current with available services, supports and concessions.

How to Access the service
Limited appointments are available & allocated for the week on Monday Mornings at 9 am. Clients should telephone early as appointments tend to go quickly.
Eligibility is restricted to residents of the City of Whittlesea and Identification & proof of residency is a requirement.
