Penzance Cornwall
A sister city of Bendigo

The final step in the formal side of establishing the Sister City relationship with Penzance was completed with the receipt of the signed "Proclamation of Sister Cities" in Bendigo. The Proclamation was signed by the then City of Greater Bendigo Chief Commissioner Peter Ross-Edwards. Commissioner Maxine Crouch and Chief Executive Officer Peter Seamer on March 5th 1996 (appropriately St Piran's Day.) Then, on May 13th Penzance Mayor, Primrose May, together with Deputy Mayor Caroline White and Chief Executive Officer David Gallie added their signatures. Of course, while this marked the end of the formal processes, it was just the beginning of developing and building on the links between the two towns.

On the 2nd of May 1998, Betty Eggleton made a speech on Penzance at the Annual Dinner of the Cornish Association of Bendigo & District Inc. A transcript of this speech can be found here.

The majority of the time in recent months has been devoted to preparation for the 1999 Australian Sister Cities Association national conference in Darwin.
