Researching Your Family

If you're looking for information about your family here is some useful information/tips to help you get started in the search! The Cornish Associtaion does not normally assist in family research, but there are many groups who do, for example the Bendigo Regional Genealogical Society Inc.

Genealogical Listservs
You can subscribe to these and go onto a bulk mailing list. You receive e-mail from the list and can usually e-mail a message for other members to read. The best of these is ROOTS-L and Genuki. Roots-L is mainly American based research and Genuki is the Uk & Ireland one. Be prepared for plenty of mail coming in each day with items which have been posted to the listserv address. I've received quite a lot of help from each over the time I've been subscribed. For information about these lists click here.

Surname Searchs
The other thing to do when trying to search for particular surnames is to try a search on one of the search engines - Alta Vista, Yahoo, Lycos etc. There are also internet directories which you can search by surname and which give you the e-mail addresses of others with the same name. A listing of the Telstra Australian White pages(look for your local telephone directory on the net) which can be used as a surname search to locate others in your area with the same name. The Four Eleven surname search tool is also very good for surname searches.

If all else fails!
This is a members HELPLIST where you can get others to help with genealogical searches. Mainly United States interests but I have had a few dealings with some members and found them happy to help out with simple requests.
