February 2008 Meeting

Presidents Piece

Thank you to all those who offered support to me after the fire, your cards and phone calls have been appreciated. The area has all been cleared away and cleaned up waiting for the new shed, the plants have all survived with new shoots appearing daily although it will take some time for them to fully recover especially the Palms that were affected the most. I visited June at Lilly Patches in Boronia recently, some of you may know her shop was recently damaged also as a result of a fire that was deliberately lit in an adjoining shop. All her stock was damaged by smoke and water and she will have to start all over again.I am sure you will all join me in wishing her all the best. She hopes to be able to reopen in about a month, however it will depend on what structural damage they will find when they start to rebuild the damaged roof area. By the time you read this the Australian Quilt Convention will have come and gone, this is the first exciting Quilting event of what promises to be a very busy year for Quilters. You will have received with this newsletter a calendar of events and activities the Committee have put together for Members in 2008, please make note of the dates in your diaries. The Biggest Morning tea will be held on the 3rd Mon Sit n Sew in May.Money raised from this event supports ongoing research to find a cure for Breast Cancer.Visitors welcome The Hall has been booked for the 12 th July for our Quilt In and I have already had inquiries for this event ,this is a day when we can show the rest of the Quilting community what A.Q.A has to offer. I have booked the Singer Challenge Quilts to be on display and I have a few options for a Guest Speaker, but nothing finalized at this stage. The most important activity of the year is the Biennial Symposium, planning is underway and Tutors have been contacted.Class samples and booking forms will soon be available to tempt you.The Symposium Committee look for Tutors who offer techniques and projects that Members have requested so please  show your support and take part in this wonderful weekend of creativity and learning. As part of the weekend we hold a Symposium Dinner on the Sat night. At the dinner the tutors that attend all have the opportunity to share with us a liitle about themselves and their particular technique and passion,I find this to be a very enjoyable part of the weekend so please consider joining us ..                        You will note that Dolly Day is back on the calendar. Your Committee are always looking for new ideas and events that continue to encourage the growth of A.Q.A and Quilting in the Community ,however we also welcome any suggestions from our Members .   Thank you to all those Members who have offered to help out with the various rosters and help lighten the load at the meeting, I am sure you will enjoy meeting different people as you welcome them or sell them a raffle ticket or help them in the Library.

Kind Regards                                                                           Pam
