A Wonderful world of Quilts
The Australian Quilters Association
Exhibition News As reported at the meeting visitor numbers were down at the Exhibition ,our own Members were very visible ,however we did not seem to attract the wider Quilting Community. There could be a number of reasons ,it could be venue ,time, lack of publicity ,to many Quilt shows or a number of other reasons. The present exhibition committee will look at all these scenarios as we start planning for the next one. Although we did not loose money ,that to me is not the important point , I feel that the wonderful work that our Members create should be viewed by so many more people, and I am determined to ensure that it happens next time,so if you have ideas or any thoughts on this matter please share them with me. As the venue etc needs to be booked , the current committee will meet soon to explore all the possibilities you are invited to join in if you have any ideas.Call me on 98734371 or speak to me at the next meeting. Thanks in anticipation Pam Hammer (Convener)
Well where do I start, from all reports I have had from those who attended is, that it was again a great Exhibition of our Members work, that the standard of work was excellent that the placement/setup of the Quilts was also excellent. The New Zealand Challenge Quilts were also spoken about in glowing terms. The opening night was attended by 60 people including Life members, invited Members from other Quilting groups our own Members and some people who had seen it advertised.Thank you to Zandra, Vanessa,James and Tom for helping out with the refreshments. Having an evening opening proved to be a success as it allowed me to attend to other matters on the Friday. The Megan Terry Award was won by Shirley Lodington for her outstanding Celtic Knot designed Quilt ,it was entirely done by hand and Megan was very impressed by it. The Irvine Green Award (chosen by Paddy)was won by Julie Oates for her lovely colour combination on her Hexagon Quilt .I am sure you would all like to join me and add your congratulations to them on these awards The Viewers choice was won by Eileen Campbell for her appliquéd flower Quilt and the Miniature Challenge was won by Shirley Lodington for her tiny tiny Kaleidoscope quilt. As the traders were very generous to us, we were able to present 1st and 2nd runner up prizes for Viewers Choice ,they were awarded to Carlene Gosbell for her Kaffe Fassett inspired Quilt and Julie Oates also for her Hexagon Quilt .Margaret Flemming also received a prize in the Members Miniature Challenge. The beautiful raffle quilt made by the w.w.w friendship group(who I forgot to thank at the opening) was won by Joanne Krause and the Bernina Sewing Machine was won by Viola Mechan I would like to thank the Exhibition committee members for all their assistance in staging this Exhibition, the Members who helped out over the three days ,doing all the jobs that are required to ensure that our Quilts were safe ,that our visitors were welcomed and those who needed refreshments were well looked after. A big thank you also to all who helped with the setting up and taking down of the Quilts and Stands. and to all who assisted in any way I am truly grateful to you all. There is a CD of all the Quilts ,available to purchase if you would like to have another look at the lovely work that our Members created.
I would also like thank our Sponsors and encourage you to support them.
