Challenges

Every so often the AQA runs Challenges. These can range from Block Challenges to Challenge Exchanges with other quilting organisations.

Block Challenges

Members are challenged to make a quilt block of a specified size on a given theme. The blocks are brought to a monthly meeting where they are displayed, and members vote for their favourite. The maker of the winning block receives a small prize, and all the blocks are used to make gift quilts.

Information about the next Block Challenge will appear in the Yearly Diary section of this site.

Exhibition Challenges

Challenges are often associated with our Biennial Member Exhibitions.

For the Biennial Member Exhibition, which was run September 18-21, 2003 and entitled   This I have Done... , the challenge was a Bag Making Challenge. Make a bag for yourself using any medium - patchwork, quilting, embroidery, felting... let your imagination go!

Challenge Exchanges

The AQA is sometimes contacted by other quilting organisations worldwide to do a challenge and exchange - both sides agree on a theme, then two exhibitions are held of quilts from both organisations - one here and one there.

The AQA did an exchange with the Pajaro Valley Quilt Association entitled Quilts Across the Pacific. Both organisations' quilts were on display at the Pajaro Valley Quilt Association Quilt Fair on February 22 and 23, 2003, then at the Back Porch Fabric Gallery, Pacific Grove, California from April 4 until June 6, 2003. You can check out the Pajaro Valley Quilt Association's website at: http://www.pvqa.org/. Quilts Across the Pacific were displayed in the lower level of the Box Hill Town Hall as part of our Biennial Members' Exhibition, September 18 - 21, 2003.

The AQA has such fun with this Challenge Exchange that we are now looking for our next Challenge Exchange partner. We were thinking about contacting a suitable group in New Zealand this time around.

Details of upcoming Challenge Exchanges will be listed in the Yearly Diary on this site.
