Please bear in mind, too, that room at the Archives is limited, and we only have desk space for a few visitors at a time.
Some ALGA material is kept off-site, and some visits will involve ALGA volunteers locating relevant material. It will help if you explain your research project in as much detail as possible, including word limits and any deadlines that you are working to.
During most of the year the Archives' public access day is Thursday, from 10.30 am till about 5 pm, breaking for lunch about 12.30 pm. If Thursdays are not convenient, we try to arrange other times, but that will depend on volunteers' availability (ALGA is an all-volunteer organisation).
We don't hold our Thursday access days over summer, but we can try to arrange other times. Our normal arrangements resume in mid-February.
The Archives don't have onsite telephone or internet access. There is a photocopier at the Archives: 10c for A4, 15c for A3.
Users of the collection will need to complete ALGA's Access Agreement (pdf, 52KB).
Our access agreement includes some important responsibilities of researchers, which protect our collection for the future.
ALGA is located in the basement of the Victorian AIDS Council, 6 Claremont Street, South Yarra (off Toorak Road, about 5 minutes walk from South Yarra station). Visitors are requested to sign in at the VAC reception desk on arrival.
